Make it a lucky day!

Make it a lucky day!

money!
7-7-07.  It's a lucky day, right?  In Lisbon, Portugal they are releasing the 7 "new" wonders of the world (really, 8 because the pyramids were an automatic winner for being around since the original 7 wonders came to fruition).  Just how many people booked hotel rooms in Vegas to try and be a winner?  Or the marriages!  I'm sure the NY Times will be full of couples hoping to use numerology as a way to increase the odds of a good marriage.  My former roommate is getting married today!  Some lotteries canceled for today due to the pressures of what if it did come up 7-7-7 and too many people had that number.  Best bet is to stay away from the casinos if you want to avoid the crowds;0)

It's all interesting to me, being a person that is big on being analytical and go by the numbers.  People in the US, in general, are not very superstitious when it comes to many things.  But how many people do you know that will get married on Friday the 13th or do something of grave importance? How about living at a street address with "666" in it?  I admit I have a big event on Thursday the 12th and boy am I glad it is not on Friday!!  As a runner, I do run 13.1 quite a bit;0)   Odd too, that Friday the 13th falls in the same 7 day period as one of the luckiest days of the century (well for the western world anyway).

For Asia, next year marks a very lucky day.  The Olympics in Beijing will begin on 8/8/08 at 8pm.  8 in the Chinese culture is lucky.  Personally, I like the 8 thing better.  It seems a lot more fluid.  That and it has nothing to do with slots:-D Meanwhile, 7 in the Chinese language is considered unlucky and symbolizes death (just like 4 in the Japanese language!).

So, if in doubt, find something to bet on today.  Today only happens once a century.  Not to burst your bubble, but odds are heavily stacked against you to be around for 7/7/07 in the 22nd century:-p

UPDATE: 7 new wonders

• The Great Wall of China
• Petra in Jordan
• Brazil's statue of Christ the Redeemer
• Peru's Machu Picchu
• Mexico's Chichen Itza pyramid
• The Colosseum in Rome
• India's Taj Mahal

  • my roommate runs a daycare, and three of the kids are celebrating birthdays today. I actually had two friends born 7/07/77 growing up!

I believe the asian '8' being good fortune is related to it being the infinity sign sideways. that could be an old wives' tale though.
  • Nothing to be on ... yet

Just read that the Statue of Liberty made the list. ... If you can't get enough 7 Wonders today, try "The 7 Wonders of the Internet" here: http://www.networkworld.com/community/?q=node/16806
  • I have never understood now the 7 wonders could change. My thought is once a wonder always a wonder.
