New York City

These boots are made for walking

Ugh. It's on. This is the latest on the NYC government site.

TWU Union Moves to Strike - City Contingency Plan is in Effect
Due to a labor action by the Transport Workers Union, there is no MTA bus or subway service in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. In response, the City has implemented its strike contingency plan. Residents who rely on MTA bus and subway service to get around the City are urged to make alternate travel arrangements and familiarize themselves with driving restrictions. Traffic and roadway limitations, including HOV and commercial vehicle restrictions, are in effect from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., weekdays. Alternate side of the street parking is suspended. NYC public schools will open two hours late and buses will be running on a two-hour delay.

I've got my walking shoes ready....
oscar

Anyone seen the 4 train?

As stated from the prior entry, the TWU did indeed go on strike this morning. As of 3am, the subways and buses of NYC Transit went on hiatus. I will be damned if I would let this strike get the best of me and my schedule. I was up at 6am...met Sempre Libera at 6:30 for a run in Central Park. Next I showered and got ready...and did what I had to do.

So I did what any other New Yorker does in times like this...move along. I laced up the sneakers and off I went...on my 3.5 mile walk to midtown. The walk was interesting. As I started, it was like any other day....people walking as if to the subway. Only the streets were bare....not a bus to be found...and really not much of anything. Anyway, more to this later...time to walk home now.

So made my trip home. It was much more cold...and by the time I got home I had lost feeling in my face.
